Sweet.  Had it on the brain.  It's turned into a set of cards.  Using one stamp set and one stamp set only.  A strange one if I might add.  So how's that for challenging?

I'm certain you're wondering what the heck that thing on the lower right corner is... well, I thought it looked like a chocolate bar with some bites missing.  Now I'm not so sure.  Oh well, it's an original!

Just received my first Neat and Tangled stamp set "Sweet Home" and the challenge #17 at Young Crafter's Unite is "Something Sweet".  Hmm, sounds like a card to me.

Ingredients:  PP from Pebbles, debossed Neenah CS and some stickers that I remembered I had, don't know the manufacturer.  Sentiment from Neat and Tangled.

All cooked up to the current Retro Sketch #46.

What a fabulous sketch for using up scrap PP or smaller stamped images.  Which I didn't.  But I may!

tag a la Kelly A. (Ellen Hutson, Cupcake Inspirations, YCU)

Take a ride on the good ship lollipop!  Check out Kelly A.'s tag at Ellen Hutson's Classroom on Day 8 and you'll see what I mean.  Wouldn't expect anything else from Lawn Fawn, would you?

Well I combined Kelly's sweet feeling tag with the inspiration photo from Cupcake Inspirations #190 - Frosting the Snowman.  No kidding:

Amazing.  I'll spend 1+ hour creating a tag but can't imagine putting so much work into cupcakes.  DS would devour these - all of them - in under five minutes...

Here's my creation.

Blue polka dot BG and snow.  White heat embossing and watercolors.  Bonbon colors and sweets.  LOVE Kelly's addition of a snowflake on the tag hole - definitely a trick to remember.

Another fun thing to try - reflected sentiments a la Becky V. over at Papertrey's Make it Monday.  You stamp onto a piece of acetate and then use the stamped acetate to stamp the reflection on the card.

I really like the Christmas card Betsy made.  Here is my take:

Looks kinda Christmas-y doesn't it.  Have to actually READ it to get it.  I went with some text stamps from Cosmo Cricket because they had flat bottoms and didn't look totally perfect to begin with.  I feared my reflected stamping might not come out perfectly.  And it didn't.  But it's Halloween.  That's cool.

I used the color scheme from Play Date Cafe #151 to mix things up a bit too.

Notice the faint hexagons.  Trendy, eh?  Just like the gals over at Three Cool Chicks.  Day #5 was about hexagons.  Here they are.

And since this technique was totally new to me, I'm playing along with Young Crafter's Unite Challenge #14 to Learn Something New.

See fish.  See fish swim.  See fish heat embossed with clear powder (=shiny)  and then painted with Distress Inks used as watercolors.  Yep - a favorite technique with a new twist - after seeing Heidi V.L.'s beautiful card.  I was going to use watercolor pencils, but I only have a few standard colors.  Couldn't resist the spectrum of colors with Distress Inks...

The stamp actually did all the work.  I just colored it in.  Paintbrush.  Water.  Made me feel like an artist.  Again.  Oh the fun I'm having lately!  A sentiment on a piece of patterned vellum (cuz I couldn't bring myself to cover up too many fish) with a little strip of PP for interest.   Ta da.

 Trends.  How long do they last?  But I did it.  Bought a chevron die.  Oh my goodness.  What fun.  What possibilities.  What a challenge (if you're good in spatial thinking -read:  I'm not - you can do awesome things with this baby).  Just check out JJ's blog.

Die cut a bunch of chevrons and then played around with them until I found a pattern I like.  Tons of possibilities.  Then, when you cut them into strips a whole nother (that's Michigan slang, BTW) world of possibilities presents itself.

Looks kinda wonky, but I purposely stamped the sentiment in lilac AND light gray to give it a bit more weight. It doesn't look that "fuzzy" IRL...  Notice how the twine guides your eye from the star down to the sentiment (thanks to Paper Crafts Connection  and Moxie Fab World I now know that's called "movement/flow")?

And because I actually needed a retirement card for a friend (yeah, I'm that old - actually I'm not but I have friends who are!!!) and because I had plenty of chevrons ;).  It needed to be more masculine so, more blue and vellum rather than twine.

Made an anniversary card for my neighbor's parents who are celebrating 50 years. Always so happy when that happens. 50 years, I mean. My folks are already at 62. WOW! Anyhoo,

All I knew was I wanted to use a wine label.  Found this card, loved the quartrefoil and woodgrain and went from there.  I stamped "Happy 50" inside with the 50 gold embossed.

Young Crafters Unite challenges you to use layers.  I've got eight.

And because I originally thought about using a folklorica die cut on the lower half, I had some leftover pieces so I put two more cards together.

Used another gold embossed wine label here, with a strip of merlot underneath it and a strip of shimmery gold for the sentiment.  Fun thing about the die cuts (I used to think "Who needs dies?  I can cut everything out by hand."  Ha.) if you cut the same image from different colors, you can mix and match.  Thus the touches of red in the black image came from the image I die cut from red.  This card uses the red negative.  So efficient, eh?

a rose is an eden 85 (watercolor)

Lest you fear I've completely lost it, another friend just called and invited us to her bday brunch next weekend.  Guess what she's getting as a gift?!?!?  This rose (#8 I believe) was made with two challenges in mind.  The sketch #14 at Retro Sketches, although I took me some liberties!  And the flower challenge #10 at Young Crafters Unite.





This poor rose.  Watercolored to near death - aqua pencils, watercolors, sparkling watercolors.  But it took that long for me to get the effect I was hoping for.

Created the strip down the side by inking the leaf stamp with Versamark and stamping.  Decided upon the French sentiment stamp and had to place the flower more centrally than in the sketch.

Meet Eden Rose 85.  She was kind enough to "pose" for this card.

I just love this time of year in my yard.  The English roses delight on a daily basis as they go from bud to bloom.  Thanks for coming by.

The PDC colors are so fun and delicate.  As are the inspiration photos.  So sketchy.  Cool.

I actually made two cards with the colors.  First off is the rose card, this time for my aunt's 70th bday.  She may be 70 but she doesn't seem it at all.   Went lighter on the coloring of the rose - yellow and pink this time.  Added that die cut strip of the perfect DCWV red, some gray spatters and some matting with PP too.  And a sweet sentiment on a tag attached with a teensy tiny brad.

Then, using up scraps,  I tried my hand at the "little collage and lotsa white space" that's happening out in cardmaking blogland.  Need more practice but I'm OK with this first attempt.

What I love about it?  All the white space.  What I don't love?  It'll take a million years to use up my stash using this method!
