simply create too 72 (Halloween/orange, SSS)

The witching hour has arrived at Simply Create Too. The theme of challenge #72 is Halloween/Use Orange. I did both.

Used the "emboss resist removed" technique to create my inked panel (and one of my favorite Halloween images from Inkadinkado). Tammy T. has a great picture tutorial for this technique here.

I die cut the panel and raised it with foam adhesive for extra interest. Keeping the color scheme going, I stamped the sentiment multi-colored. A square of PP and two rounded corners later, I was done.

Get out your Halloween supplies (if they aren't already!) or just go orange crazy and Simply Create Too!

Another card for a Paper Crafts call created based on a color story from Design Seeds.  Chose to work with this one cuz I thought I could get my "white space" fix using that creme color.

Some die cut chevrons-turned-arrows, even using some metallic CS for a "silky" effect.  Some CASual Fridays stamps and a zebra tone-on-tone BG. Sequins too.  And lightly inked edges.  And Cutter Bee faux stitching.  Quite a lot for me, actually.  I like how this design seems alive.  But rejected.

two-fer trigger (Moxie Fab, SSS)

Inspired by the colors and embroidery of the Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab I grabbed my medallion stamp.  It's kinda got the circles-but-square look like the pattern in the material.  But how to get the texture of the embroidery? Which even kinda shimmers?

 How about with more stamping, some heat embossing and even some metallic gelato dots?

Colored the image with markers, misted with water and stamped.  Then misted again and stamped again.

Then I saw my PTI Lovely Layers set still laying there from my monogram card and decided to add more interest and layers with some of the circle images from it (the green and the white embossed).  And then I had the brilliant idea to put some little blooms into those circles.  Ha  (insert nod in Darnell's direction - she's recently reorganized her clear stamps by category) .  You know you probably have many little blooms, they come as fillers with lots of stamp sets, but WHICH ONES?  Took me 10 minutes, but now I can tell you that Hero Arts All Occasion Messages has some great little fillers.  The stitched bloom in the green circles is from a Crafty Secrets sewing set.  The cluster of three teensy berries is PTI Harvest Berries and the teensiest flower ever - embossed on the purple flourishes -  is in the PTI Love Lives Here.  Whoddathunkit?

I've been inking just the outside edge of focal panels lately, barely noticeable but I think it adds a kick.  Just wanted to point out that I did it on the first card, using up the "gelato smush" I had created to stamp the dot clusters.  I just watered it down even more (it was on my plastic painter's palette) and let the edges of the watercolor paper soak some up!  Actually did it to the envelope edges too.  Less waste ya know ;)

Did ya catch the pink liquid pearls for the lips and the "i"s?  OK, I'll 'fess up.  I had the idea to add the pink twine after a night's sleep ;)

Cute baby card coming at you.  I love making them, especially with this cool stamp from Rubbernecker.  Add some watercoloring with Distress Inks and I'm good to go.

I combined  Kittie C.'s HYCCT#1227 (a window + pink) with Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #122.

Took some liberties with the sketch, but I thought of the window and curtains when I saw it.  I actually stamped the French lace border from WMS in the middle of the cardbase before adding the PP to mimic the vertical lines in the sketch.  Then I stretched the bow into curtains!

My BFF's little boy sent Flat Stanley to our house to see what life in Deutschland is like.  Here he is.

Figured I would make a card for his return to the US.  Wanted to replicate the "feel" of Stanley.  Can you say brightly colored?!?!?

Saw this inspiration photo at The Alley Way Stamps Challenge #13 and this freebie of theirs and had my idea.  Have you seen the Awesome Blossom set they have. So versatile and so my style.

So here's my card:

Printed the digital images onto kraft and colored paper.  Fussy cut.  And fussy cut.  And fussy cut.  Mixed up the colors of the bats a bit like those adorable little monsters in the inspiration photo and paper pieced them.  Some texture for the top of the card and a couple strips of kraft (stamped with zebra print that you can hardly see...) and PP also in honor of those little monsters.  I distress inked the edges of the card and bats and strips and swiped some Tea Dye across the dry embossing too.

So, fresh from vacation and two piles of laundry completed, this is what I created.  Not my best ever, but fun to do.  Masked and misted a circle.  Stamped the image off the edge.  Added my new Hero Arts sentiment and heat embossed it.  Added a touch of bling and mounted to card base.

Off to do some more laundry so I have more room to craft ;)  Hope ya'll had a productive WCMD.  I was strolling the beach on France's Silver Coast which was a pretty groovy way to spend the day too.  After the first couple nights I actually slept without dreaming about card design!  Obviously it was time for vacay!  (Any of you have that "problem" too???)

OK, one last silver and white wedding card.  It was actually this card of mine that my friend saw laying on my dining room table which made her ask me to make a wedding card.  Wonder if she'll choose this one?

april showers bring purple flowers (DIY embellies)

First off, a couple shots of the purple in my garden.  Bear with me, I'm only a wannabe photographer.  BTW, that yellowness behind the iris?  A healthy crop of dandelions.  One disadvantage to living across from an open field.  And one reason we laid sod instead of seeding our backyard last weekend!

Queen of the Night

So, purple on the mind, I must admit this was too good to be true.  My last card was for DD's friend for her confirmation.  She informed me she needed another one for another girl in her class and this girl is "purple".  And gray.

 Just took my old design and the new challenge 129 at The Play Date Cafe.



What I love about this inspiration photo are the flowers at the bottom - straight from the farmer's market - and the boldness of the colors combined with the stark white in the top two photos.

So, I made flowers out of various purples combined with a lotta white.

Die cut the flower layers PP, recycled security envelopes and old dictionary.  Used a stylus to make a "bowl" in center of each layer. Used a scoring tool to curl some petal edges under. Inked edges. Assembled flower and added brad to center. Stamped large flourish on card base and added a die cut border strip to ground the embellies. Attached large flower with foam tape.

Punched a coordinating center for small flower and added girlfriend's initial to it. Added some shimmery watercolors to the butterfly colored with colored pencils and attached. Spritzed with some Perfect Pearls. Stamped the "glückwunsch" (congratulations) sentiment inside.

Another episode of DIY embellishments - this time from the Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers die.  Had confirmation cards to make for DD's girlfriends.  I chose the flower theme.  DD chose the color for this one - beige.

BTW - I know I saw a macaroon stamp out in blogland but I can't find it again.  I think it was actually French.  Anyone have a tip?  Anyway, no macaroons for confirmation.  Just purty blooms.

Whiteboard (upcycle picture frame)

Needed a little something for a friend's birthday.  He's involved in a lot and has to stay organized.  I decided he needed one of my TO DO whiteboards ;)  Like here.  Only question was how to make it masculine.

Is that not gorgeous?  The blue and white is so typical for Greek islands, but combined with the sky-blue-pink sky.  Wow.

Add to the fact that this friend is a fan of the North Sea which is famous for its tidal flats.  Note my repurposing of my zebra BG stamp.

Used acrylic paint for the entire project.  Painted and stamped the frame.  Streaked white CS with white paint and stamped with various stamps to create an abstract beach scene.  Attached hook to hang with.  Reassembled.  Then I made these:

Instead of wasting excess paint I made the tag to attach to the wrapped present.  Notice the water.  It's a sideways "d" - the last letter I stamped on the frame.  TIP:  To get good spacing when stamping letters, stamp the top and bottom ones first, then the letters in between.

The whiteboard marker I wrapped with wrapping paper attached with double-sided tape.

I wasn't sure if it would go over well.  DS said to me "What's that supposed to be?  An antique ipad?"  But friend opened the present,  took the lid off the pen and wrote.  Cook.  Clean.  Iron.  And handed it to his wife.  Snot!
