Whiteboard (upcycle picture frame)

Needed a little something for a friend's birthday.  He's involved in a lot and has to stay organized.  I decided he needed one of my TO DO whiteboards ;)  Like here.  Only question was how to make it masculine.

Enter the photo at For Your Inspiration.

Is that not gorgeous?  The blue and white is so typical for Greek islands, but combined with the sky-blue-pink sky.  Wow.

Add to the fact that this friend is a fan of the North Sea which is famous for its tidal flats.  Note my repurposing of my zebra BG stamp.

Used acrylic paint for the entire project.  Painted and stamped the frame.  Streaked white CS with white paint and stamped with various stamps to create an abstract beach scene.  Attached hook to hang with.  Reassembled.  Then I made these:

Instead of wasting excess paint I made the tag to attach to the wrapped present.  Notice the water.  It's a sideways "d" - the last letter I stamped on the frame.  TIP:  To get good spacing when stamping letters, stamp the top and bottom ones first, then the letters in between.

The whiteboard marker I wrapped with wrapping paper attached with double-sided tape.

I wasn't sure if it would go over well.  DS said to me "What's that supposed to be?  An antique ipad?"  But friend opened the present,  took the lid off the pen and wrote.  Cook.  Clean.  Iron.  And handed it to his wife.  Snot!

Apologies for the lousy photos.  Couldn't redo them this morning since it's already in his possession.

Thanks for your visit.

grown-up baby card

Mitt's got Super Tuesday. I've got Super Challenge.

Picked up this rubber stamp on ebay and use it often. I love the vintage feel of those baby shoes (probably cuz I wore shoes like that).

I'm out to prove that baby cards don't always have to be pink/blue and cutesy.

Actually I'm out to rock three challenges :)  CAS-ual Fridays wants a CAS baby card.  Less is More wants neutrals and Catered Crop is ravenous about ribbon.

Decided to use kraft as my base.  PP with a barely-there-checkered-pattern in light gray for the shoes which I also heat embossed for some texture. Greige polka dot circle.  Recycled and stamped twill messy-stitched.  All edges inked with Pumice Stone Distress Ink.  Done.

I actually used sketch #18 from Fetch-a-Sketch.  Like the simplicity of it.  Missed the deadline.  Surprise, surprise.

Supplies: baby congratulations
Paper: kraft ?, PP Fancy Pants & echo park
Stamps: shoes A La Carte, sentiment Stampendous
Ink: black Versafine
Tools: corner rounder  & circle punch EKS,  sewing machine
Other: embossing powder

Happy Birthday to a great friend! (kissing technique)

You may have seen this photo from this post of mine.

I couldn't get the design of the tray (upper left corner) to work with my die cut birdies.  But the design was still begging to be created and when I saw the Kissing Challenge at Lily Pad, I gave it another try.  Also entering Simon Says Stamp's Anything Goes with this one.

I got to cheat  a little on the kissing technique because this stamp set from 7Gypsies has a couple birds with text on them.  I did texture up the solid bird by kissing the Feather Grasses stamp from Hero Arts.  Used pigment inks from Aladine for the birds.  Stamped the sentiment with Versafine and clear embossed.   Love it when a single-layer card works!

Here is the inside:

Hope the birds are singing in your neck of the woods.

With Sympathy (dry embossing)

Very challenging colors for me over at CR84FN - gray, kraft and yellow.  Love the inspiration though.  I swear I can smell those lemons.  If you don't know these ladies, check them out - a  great variety of styles.

Notice the quote:  Happiness is a butterfly...  Thus my new embossing folder.  Again.  Twice.  You decide which one you like better.

Same concept for both.  CS base stamped at edges with butterfly stamp.  Gray dots embossed PP panel stitched with yellow onto CS base.   Some punched butterflies (some heat embossed) adhered to front.  More butterflies and some pearls on #1.  Fewer butterflies and a bigger sentiment on #2.

I made #1 first.  By no means is it a fancy card... but for my taste it was too "heavy".  Thus #2.

TIP:  Use a square punch to make the "V" on a sentiment strip.  Less wonky than snipping with scissors.  And I'm too cheap to buy a die to do it for me.

TIP:  No one likes having to make sympathy cards.  But I enjoy using these stamps from Technique Tuesday when I have to.  Very versatile.

Thanks for visiting.

The Aftermath

All I wanted to do was make a quick post and then make my kids' lunch.  I was running late (spent too much time touring blogland.)  Posted, and then in a momentary lapse of reason, deleted all of the wonderful comments that all of you wonderful people had left on my blog!

Now maybe I'm still to experience something worse with blogging, but THAT was about the worst thing that I could imagine happening.

Six hours later, after some marathon googling and then cutting and pasting, the wonderful comments were back on my blog.  As mad as I had been at Blogger for not having asked computer-dumbell-me if I "really, really, really wanted to delete", I was ecstatic to discover that the emails I receive when comments are posted were still in my trash can in Gmail!

Enter the cutting and pasting.

SOOO, the card that I had planned to work on last night, didn't happen until today.

Unfortunately I need two more sympathy cards.  I wanted to play with the Play Date Cafe's color challenge - mojito, peony and sand.

And I wanted to use my new Craft Concepts embossing folder.  With Coredinations whitewash CS.  Sanded.  What a cool effect this has.

Inked up my typewriter BG with creme and beige and stamped my frame .  Clear embossed the chestnut brown sentiment (the sympathy message is inside.)  Inked all edges.  Added some beige cotton twine as a frame around the frame to give it more texture.

In the inspiration photo the pink looks pretty light.  But I needed a bit more contrast so I went with this medium pinky tone.  Glued some seed beeds onto the punched butterflies for... more texture.  Now I get to wrap it in bubble wrap when I mail it...

BTW, I use Glossy Accents to adhere lots of things.  Holds like cement.

Also hooking up to Simon Says Stamp's Anything Goes challenge.

Hope you have a healthy and happy weekend.  I'm happy.  I got my comments back :)

I am SOOOO sorry

OMG.  I just deleted all of the wonderful comments so many nice people left on my blog.

What can I say, other than I'm sorry.  I guess I was thinking they are on the blog, so on the list in the overview I can clean house a bit to just see the newer ones.  I'm so clueless about blogger.  And I feel horrible.

Dangerous to let a technologically challenged girl have a blog.

I'm so sorry.  And so sad.

bird lover's bday (alcohol inks)

Needed a card for a bird lover.  Knew that I wanted to use my Tim Holtz bird on a branch stamp.  But what to do with it?

Found this frame of Tammy's and loved it.  Don't have to ask me twice to get  messy with alcohol inks!  Here is my card.

Used packaging from a body lotion set.  Die cut the acetate for the first layer, a "frame" out of the chipboard for the second and a backing from textured CS for the third.

Stamped the bird on the front with Staz On.  Let the alcohol inks do their thing on the backside of the acetate.  Colored birdie's breast with a Q-tip.  Stamped French text on the frame.  And some grungy dots onto the backing and card base.  Inked edges with Distress Inks.

I used glue dots to attach the acetate - visible if you look closely, but the alcohol ink bubbles look like dots too.  Mounted whole focal image with dimensionals.  Put the bday sentiment on the inside after stamping some grungy dots there too.

Linking up to the Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp.

Happy Friday.
