CASed RIC for STAMPlorations inspiration #41

Because I'm squeaking in under the wire at CASe This Sketch #143, I'm coming at you one day early with my inspiration project for STAMPlorations.

I just read about simple ways to make my brain happier (thanks Monika S.) and decided to "#3 Make that decision" to use these two challenges and this stamp set to create with. So there!

STAMPlorations Mixed Media Elements

 Six grungy line stamps and many ink pads later this was born. Made me happy ;)

Don't know if the model's skirt has pleats in it or if the vertical lines are part of the fabric print, but I took a distressed lines BG stamp from CHF, inked it with white pigment ink and stamped it over the entire stamped area before removing the circle mask and heat embossing my sentiment from STAMPlorations Party Time. See the lines?

STAMPlorations inspiration #21

Time for another dose of inspiration over at STAMPlorations. Well let me tell you, I am often inspired by cards I see in blogland, but seldom do I run to my craft room to basically recreate something I've seen. Today's card changed that.

I am showcasing the sentiment set, Fond Expressions, with its wonderful combination of handwritten froufrouness and clean san serif type. And a flower.

This glittered die cut technique is what I absolutely had to try after I had seen Gayatri's card for the current RIC challenge. In a nutshell... cut solid Winnie and Walter bloom from sticky paper (I ran scrap through my Xyron), outline from black. Adhere outline to solid, mix red, blue, gold and silver glitter and pour it on. Burnish with finger and voila! Chose a couple PPs from my stash to frame the bloom.

Um, and, I actually own J. Crew. That sure can't be said for most of the eye candy at RIC! Have a good one.

simply create too 79

It's Anything Goes at Simply Create Too this time around. I shopped my stash after seeing this breath of fresh air on the Runway.

So feminine. So flowing. So lovely. So butterfly-like.

While wrapping a baby present this weekend I stumbled across this wrapping paper I've had forever. It immediately reminded me of the gown at RIC. How to use it on a card??? Then I remembered some butterfly shaped cards I've had forever too! What a happy accident.

I glued the wrapping paper onto the card and trimmed around the edges. Stamped vellum with yellow polka dots and die cut a butterfly with Hero Arts Antique Flower and Butterfly. On top of the vellum butterfly I adhered a WPlus9 Hello die cut from some Basic Grey PB and J PP.

So light and airy. Hello Spring! So, what do you have in your stash that could inspire you to make a card?

faux gelli for ric

Here comes another one of those posts about the evolution of a card. Are you ready?

I saw this outfit over at Runway Inspired Challenge and immediately got a Japanese cherry tree and manga (read: Pokemon cartoon background scenery) vibe. Had been itching to try some faux gelli plate work again. And had just received my cool new ARTplorations stencils in the mail. This is what happened.

Meet card #1.

And card #2. Heavily influenced by the bag the model is carrying!

If you'd like to see and hear about my faux gelli plate mono printing, here comes.

On my plastic bag (on top of stacked newspapers) I brayered light pink acrylic paint. Took a monoprint of it, and then a second print on a second piece of paper.

Then I sponged red acrylic paint through a Dylusions stencil onto the first print (top) and flipped the stencil over and "stamped" it onto the second print (bottom).

Then I brayered turquoise and green as sky and grass(from the inspiration photo) and took a first print (bottom) and second print (top). Sponged on darker blue through a SSS Wave stencil, flipped it and stamped it onto the other print.

Then I pulled out Stampendous Winter Trees and stamped the one print with nestled villages and trees using Archival ink.

I then sponged a few red hibiscus (that's what I'm callin' 'em) through my ARTplorations Bold Florals Stencil onto the print.

Trimmed a front panel from the above print, added a Little B die cut sentiment to the front and that was card #1.

Then I approached the second print. Stamped it randomly with Stampendous Floral Tapestry and red ink. Took my ARTplorations Leaf Prints stencil and white paint and doctored the print up a little.

And for some crazy reason, I decided to test my new Spellbinders Glass Effects die. Four times. Once from the print, and then again from shiny red and black recycled packaging and white CS. Now you know how I spent Friday evening. Arranging and rearranging and glueing little geometric pieces!

I'm sure you will see the other three Glass Effects cards make an appearance at some point, but my brain is fried for now! Tomorrow is another Fastnachtssitzung. A group of ten of us are going as Forest Witches. Got a costume to tweak. Helau!

not quite leger

The adjective "leger" in German means casual. In fashion, casual and somewhat sloppy. As in, laying around the house in your sweats. Certainly not what Herve Leger had in mind with this:

If you zoom in, there's a golden sheen to the dress which made me grab my shimmer CS from DCWV. I stamped some Inkadinkado mistletoe on it and then added some bling in a nod to the pink and orange on the rest of the dress.

Then I framed the stamped piece with black CS and heat embossed some beaded corners with gold in a nod to the studs running along all the panels of the dress. A WMS sentiment from Festive Foliage finished it off.

Can you say "funky"?

I love this photo. Needless to say, the headdress is totally unexpected, and therefore right up my alley. And something about that gown. It's funky, but it's regal too. Just look at the way that fabric drapes. Wow.

Well, have you seen my teamie Shirley-bee's stamp set, City Girl? She had to come play at RIC.

I skipped the antlers but gave her some Glossy Accented shades instead :) OK, and maybe I should call her City Girl in Bondage, eh? Those bold stripes are looking a bit wonky in the photo!

Maybe you saw my first card for the Runway Inspired challenge...

No butterfly this time, but I'm stickin' to the black and yellow. And light and airy.

I let myself be inspired by some Kesi Art PP and that heart die. Added some splatters and sequins and a sentiment.

And cuz it's all about the sentiment at Crafty Cardmakers #125, I'm hooking up. Also playing at House of Cards again where it's about Punches and Dies.

i saw a butterfly (RIC, Dazzling Divas, ATSAM)

What do you see when you look at the latest fashion photo from Runway Inspired Challenge?

Well forgive me for this one, but at first glance I thought skinny model here was wearing giant wings (maybe it's something about the position of her arms. Or just my eyes.) Ping. Butterfly. Then I got the whimsical, light and airy overall feel of the photo thanks to that sheer backdrop. Ping. Vellum. Then the black "outlines" on the outfit and finally the XXL black clunker on her finger.

Which all turned into this card. Which is yellow and black, cuz my mind's eye assumed this was yellow. (Must really be my eyes!) 

Stamped the sentiment and then the stems of the STAMPlorations tulips in black on card. Heat embossed tulips yellow on vellum and backed the vellum strip with PP. Stitched and adhered to card. Die cut butterfly from Add a Little Dazzle metal sheet in black and adhered it with glue dots. A strip of PP along the bottom was the finishing touch.

danke a la guess who? (STAMPlorations, RIC)

Sneaking in here with another twofer that I hope you'll enjoy.  Best things, first.

So I was catching up on some blogs and became enamoured with a certain someone out there (who I wouldn't be surprised to see as the next Papertrey gal).  Her work is gorgeous. She has a phenomenal way with color.  And photography.

This is a sneak of my card inspired by her. Can you guess who I'm talkin' about? Hint: she was a recent muse at CASE Study.

Back it up a bit.  Our challenge at STAMPlorations this month is Stamps and Technique.  I had made a card with heat embossing and distress inking.  Love that. Lots. So I was thinking about doing it again  and when I was devouring Joni's (did you guess right? Joni A. of Papell with Love) boldly-but-only-partially-inked backgrounds like on this card and then saw her use the Stampedous Jumbo Peony (NBUS in my stash) on this card I was off and running.

Well, with my first attempt I smashed into a brick wall.  But more on that tomorrow.

Watercolored another peony and this was born.

Heat embossed the bloom onto watercolor paper and watercolored with Distress Inks in Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick. TIP:  Check out this fabulous video about watercoloring. Applied Distress Inks (Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint, Broken China and Peacock Feathers) through a Prima Damask stencil for the BG. My intent was to have the lighter green and blue up top and the darker tones down toward the bottom.  See the green-ish hues up on the right?  Should have been just light blue... you'll understand more when you've seen tomorrow's post ;)  Created a dymo label sentiment which I layered with some vellum before adhering it to the bloom which is popped up with foam adhesive.

Now it's a stretch, but I'm going to RIC # 57 with this since I was influenced by the colors although I did not end up going graphic with the BG.

hip hip hooray for ric (RIC, SSS, Neat and Tangled)

Ready for a threefer?  I wasn't.  It just happened. (And I didn't even make a card using my first idea!)  Meet the Temperly London dress from Runway Inspired Challenge #53.

Whoa! Definitely going to a party.  Definitely shimmery. Very symmetric, yet organic. That's what I got at least.  Oh, and Antique Linen, Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers with black accents (Did you notice that glove???) Even if you don't play along, you must check out the DT cards. Extraordinaire, they are.

Meet hip #1.

I LOVE this.  Pun intended.  I've got this older Kelly Panacci stamp set, Love, and it's got the greatest images.  This one caught my eye for this card.  Back up... Flubidoo caught my eye.  Did you see her gorgeous creation for this challenge - the pink and purple distress inked panels?  Knew I had to do that.  And why not paired with bronze/glitter Zing? Screamed "artsy fartsy" image to me. Which brings us back to the Love set.

So, distress inking (spritzed with bronze Perfect Pearls for the coolest shimmer) plus heat embossed image just wasn't doing it.  My inner Aga thought about a Dymo label. But just the Dymo strip wasn't enough.  Enter the PP strip (discovered as I was searching for a folklore type print) and red heart.  Still wasn't enough, thus the "photo corners" with an organic edge.

Meet hip #2.

To mimic the symmetric but organic blooms outlined with black, I heat embossed with a floral BG stamp on Neenah CS and colored with Distress Inks in abovementioned colors. Die cut the sentiment from CS and backed it with a strip of the BG. The plain CS just wasn't doing it... had to add some inks and Glimmer Mist to make it party-worthy. And some jumbo sequins - why not?

So, ready for the party? Meet hooray.

This card happened cuz as I was looking for my purple sequins for hip #2, I stumbled across these sequins and they screamed "party banner" to me.  Which led to the "celebration" idea which led to the Neat and Tangled Party Dots stamp set.  Some Wink of Stella shimmer on the dots and voila.

OK, I'm done.
