happy valentine's day 2023

Lordy, lordy look who hasn't posted for two months! Not sure anyone cares, but if nothing else but to remind myself sometime down the road here's why... I'm not making as many cards lately. I make the occasional one that is necessary (Valentine for example) and otherwise use up ones from my stash. More on that later.

This was the Valentine I made for DD this year. I was inspired by something Heidi Swapp created. Did you see this fun piece in her reel? I love the little interactive window elements. I used another of Heidi's ideas from another piece and included "5 things I love about you." Three in the windows on the front and two on little pull out tags in a pocket inside.

I pulled out all kinds of supplies from my stash - PP to stamp on, stamps, dies, inks, colored pencils, twine. All the things. Loved the process. Hated the clean up :)

On a side note, something keeping me busy lately is getting my stamps and dies into the Evernote app so that I have an overview of what I actually own. And for a project like this it would have been very helpful to use Evernote to see which Valentine/love/vintage etc stamps I own instead of flipping through everything.  I own a shitload, actually, but alas they're not all in Evernote yet.

When I have everything inventoried, I aim to destash about a third of my shitload. Just keep watching ;)

Here are DH and DS versions.

What has actually been taking up my time more recently is a foray into the world of memory planning. An oxymoron if I ever heard one, but I'm learning to live with it ;)

Are you a planner? I am the world's worst planner. Ever. So why would I get into memory planning? My cousin introduced me on to the Heidi Swapp memory planner world and by golly it's a great idea. It's basically scrapbooking daily life in a simple format - photo driven with some journaling to record the memories and some decorating just for fun. Heidi calls the process "Stop the Blur" as in keep track of everday life so when people ask you what you did last Tuesday you can actually answer. You can check out the idea here

So before jumping into it (and buying all the things) I decided to give it a try using a notebook from the dollar store and supplies I already have. I print photos at the drug store and pop them into my book often hidden in interactive elements. Here's a peek.

Full disclosure, I just recently did buy all the things :) I've been enjoying this process this since last fall so I'm gonna make the switch to Heidi Swapp's memory planner format. If you are a memory planner, I'd love to hear any of your tips for a newbie!!!

oldie but goodie

Seems every year around Valentine's Day I pull out this stamp set from Kelly Panacci! Guess you could call it my "go-to". Love the mix of styles in it.

The last challenge (yep, I missed it) at Share Joy had this image which I also remember seeing last year somewhere. I think it's pretty cool. So I went with the LOVE word for Mod Squad - Love is in the Air and colors from ColourQ #325 and my card was born.

Multi-color-heat-embossed, see? After I stamped the large love sentiment tone-on-tone in the corner.

I'm also joining in at House of Cards "Embossing and/or Color". Thanks for stopping by.

monogram for gertrud (PTI)

Knew this blog hop was approaching.  Totally forgot about it until an hour ago.  Was going to sit it out but then I was chatting with Kelly G. about having lots of ribbon and never using it and I need a card for Gertrud's 70th (this lady is in my workout class!) so I decided to go for it.

Was I thrilled to find that little branchy stamp in the Lovely Layers set?  Yep.  Did I iron my ribbon scraps?  Nope.  Should I have?  Yep.   Was I totally inspired by one of the the photos in the inspiration board over at Papertrey?  Yep.  Recognize it?  Magenta, gold, circle, stripes....

Happy hopping.

Paper: cardbase Buttinette, CS Neenah, other Bringmann

just five little words (SCS, Lessology, ABNH)

Five little words that pack a really big punch, that is.  This card is for HYCCT#1203 - to make a card with five separate words on it.

Used recycled acetate and alcohol inks to create the die cut panel.  Stamped the sentiment with StazOn.  Added a couple die cut (the die cut hearts and the what-would-have-been-garbage-from-the-die-cut) border strips for interest.

Hooking up to:
Lessology - #20 Barely There
A Blog Named Hero #15 - Use punched or die cut elements

Thanks for looking.  And since Tim Holtz wasn't running, here's hoping the best man won...

Supplies for happy true love:
Paper: CS American Crafts,  PP Pink Petticoat, recycled acetate
Stamps: Kelly Panacci
Ink : alcohol inks, StazOn
Tools: border die PTI, Spellbinders

top of the class (CFC, DYSU)

I really didn't think I'd play along with the "Back to School" challenges.  DS and DD  absolutely dread the day that school starts up and need no reminder of it.  But two years ago I had the pleasure of teaching English to 9th and 10th graders at our high school when a teacher was on prolonged maternity leave.  She is heading back to the classroom this year so I figured I had a card candidate.

Remember the joy of bringing home a paper with a gold star on it?  And maybe an "A+"?  I was one of those kids who was just made for school.  I loved it and it loved me.  Lucky, I know.  I have a couple of kids who didn't get those genes...

Anyhoo,  here's what I made.

Debossed white CS, rounded corners and mounted to card base.  Die cut gold star from recycled packaging.  Stamped circle to look like that paper we used when learning to print - remember?  Added an "A+" by hand and some letter stickers and there she is.

Entering CASual Fridays CFC68 and Do You Stack Up's Back-to-School challenge.

a rose is a rose is a jubilee (CPS)

Quick one here.  Made another rose card and this one is going to the CPS card sketch #267 and Less is More who are featuring red, white and blue in Her Majesty's honor.

CPS badge for your blog/site

We'd love you to display our banner

The rose - heat embossed on vellum, again.  The die cut label stamped with Faded Jeans Distress ink.  The red spheres were a test run of my new rainbow die.  Found a stamp that fit inside the circles and one to add some weight to the bottm and called it a card.

Enjoy your weekend, especially those of you in Her Majesty's backyard.

Supplies Life's Moments:
Paper: cardbase Buttinette,  Neenah, vellum Ursus
Stamps:  The Craft's Meow, WMS, Kelly Panacci, CreaMotion
Ink: Versamark, Versafine, Distress Ink
Tools: die Spellbinders, MFT
