gift card sleeve (stamping with markers)

This has to be one of my favorite techniques - stamping with markers to achieve a watercolor look.  Never know exactly how the image will turn out.  Usually, it's pretty darn cool.  Makes me feel like an artist!

Decided to go with a sleeve to cover this gift card holder from a bookstore.

Also had a bookmark (from a craft fair in MI last summer) to go with the gift card and wanted to include it as part of the packaging.  Thus the sleeve, making it possible to have the bookmark peek out over the top.  CASEd myself here for my design.

To make the sleeve I trimmed a strip of navy CS the height of the gift card holder.  Laid it on my scoring board and scored fold lines, leaving a tiny bit of leeway to account for the thickness of the holder.  Wrapped it around the holder and glued it together.

Colored the stamp (only the flower portion) with various blue and green tones then spritzed with a mini mister. Stamped onto watercolor paper, cut and punched the border. Cut a piece of teal CS and attached to sleeve. Embellished with a few buttons.

I'm actually on time.  The gift is ready ahead of time!  Now I can look forward to the bday brunch.

Happy weekend ya'll.

flowers (velveteen stamping)

Finally got around to creating cards with flowers for this month's Hero Arts challenge.

Wanted to try the velveteen stamping technique. Shari used white pigment ink and Hero Arts inks.  Must not work optimally with chalk inks.  You can see my swirl BG on the white areas (stamped with white pigment ink), but not shimmering through the flowers (stamped with chalk ink).

Love the color combo at CR84FN #50.  But I struggled with the assembly of this card.  Tried various CS colors to mount it on and some ribbon here or there, but came back to simplest of simple.  One  little vellum butterfly.  And pale yellow for the back panel at least!

Went with the Hero Arts colors for this month on this card made with the negative of card #1.

Had actually tested the chalk inks on this negative before stamping card #1.  Saw that the velveteen effect didn't really work, but wanted to go with the colors anyway and I only have them in chalk inks.

Love navy blue so decided to keep this simple by heat embossing the flowers in white.  Can you tell I don't own an anti-static sack?

Do you have a trick for avoiding the stray embossing powder effect?

Thanks for looking (again) today.

folklorica (crepe paper-the new fabric)

Time to play along with the Runway Inspired Challenge again.  This is the amazingly vibrant fall fashion for 2012.  Pure happiness if you ask me.

I immediately thought "matruschka".  Actually have Hero Arts stamps that would work for this theme, but then decided to go with the gathered trim on the front and cuffs.  Enter orange crepe paper.

More inspiration from the photo:
colors - red, pink, orange, and light blue of the letters
folklorica die cut
white scalloped circle like the clock
mod embossing folder like the cool mod necklace

Thanks much for looking!

thank you (scraps & sketch)

Do you know the solution to keeping all of the artwork your kids bring home from school without actually keeping it?  Photograph it.  And scrap it.  And then take it one step further and use it for making cards.  (Did I mention I haven't gotten myself to climb the mountain of scrapbooking yet.  It's still a bit too overwhelming.)

DD made me this for my bday a couple of years back.  Distress Inks to the max.

Well now it's been photographed for posterity and turned into this.

Punched the flowers out of the card.  Added a few scraps of pink gingham PP, a mock sewn frame and the sentiment.  I like how it repeats along the bottom like the squares repeat.

Entering the challenges at Fetch-a-Sketch #19.  I was their guest designer back in January and haven't played with them since.  And the colors are from Kathy's Lily Pad Palette.  And since I've incorporated flowers, the Hero Arts March challenge.

Invitation (shaped card)

Trying to use my Spellbinders dies more.  Decided to mass produce (if eight qualifies as mass production) this simple invitation to my bday party. Will probably take me more time to deliver them than it took to make them!

Die cut the shape from white CS.  Left the die on and applied Tumbled Glass Distress Ink around outside.  Stamped flowers then calendar.  Signed, sealed,  now off to deliver.

Entered into EAD Designs March color challenge cuz I'd love to get me some of their fabby stickers.

Hope your week is wonderful.

Get well soon (black/white)

A Passion for Papertrey wants you to create with black, white and a pop of color.  I used the sketch from Skipping Stones #118

Used up scraps from this card of mine for the scalloped circle.  Used 2 of my 3 Papertrey sets to stamp the black dot strip and peony.  Heat embossed both.  Stamped the sentiment and adhered circle and flower.  Rounded upper corner.  Done.

Appreciate your visit.

sending Easter love (upcycled packaging)

Jay Gee's Nook has this incredible inspiration photo for challenge #17:

How wonderfully springy is this. It was on my mind as I was straightening up my crafting area.  Found chipboard packaging from choco bunny lollies.  Saved last year thinking "I could do something with this".  So I did.

The result is not fabulous.  I managed to keep the watercoloring of the image to a minimum.  But I way overdid it with the glitter.  Oops.

Used Vicky's idea for the shaped card.  After watercoloring I added a satin ribbon and a little tag sentiment tied on with cotton twine.  Stamped the inside.

In the large photo you cannot see this, but the image is actually printed with gold ink.  The only "cool" factor to this card.

Chalk this one up to experience.

Thanks for looking.
